From Paris punk bassist to house music pioneer, Étienne de Crécy has established himself as a central figure of the French Touch, constantly reinventing a style all his own. The creator of Super Discount, the seminal 1997 album, he laid the foundations for a sophisticated and audacious house sound, marked by raw elegance and eclectic influences. Beyond beats and samples, Étienne de Crécy injected a rare sensitivity into electronic music, building bridges between the dancefloor and contemplation.

Before reaching this pinnacle, De Crécy cut his teeth as a sound engineer backstage at the legendary +XXX studio in Paris, where his meeting with Philippe Zdar marked the start of an iconic musical adventure. Together, they formed Motorbass, whose album Pansoul became a cornerstone of the French house scene in 1996, imposing a style both gentle and daring. Pansoul liberated the house scene from its conventions and opened up a resolutely French path of creative freedom.

Alongside his studio successes, Étienne de Crécy has distinguished himself by a visual aesthetic as meticulous as his music. The elegant minimalism of Super Discount's visuals, the raw geometry of Beats 'n' Cubes, and the striking contrasts of his After and Commercial series, testify to his acute sense of stagecraft. For Étienne de Crécy, design is more than a detail: it's an extension of music, a common thread running through his work.

In 2015, with Super Discount 3, Étienne de Crécy explores a more vocal and collaborative universe, inviting artists such as Kilo Kish and De La Soul, and demonstrating, once again, that the French Touch cannot be reduced to a simple sound label. “I'm really proud of this project,” he confides. “The French Touch is all about this diversity, this desire to never let ourselves be pigeonholed.”

In 2018, Étienne de Crécy collaborated with Baxter Dury and Delilah Holliday on the album B.E.D.. This project blends de Crécy's minimalist electro with the singular voices of Baxter Dury and Delilah Holliday.

Today, in 2024, Étienne de Crécy remains a key figure, defying the passage of time with a string of tours and new productions. As much an artist of the stage as of the studio, he continues to reinvent house music, oscillating between tradition and modernity, while exploring the boundaries of a genre he never ceases to redefine.
