It all began over ten years ago, with a poetry workshop. At the time, Christophe Lhuillier was an educator at the Institut Médico-Éducatif (IME) in Bourg-la-Reine: “We launched a writing workshop with my colleague Claire. From the very first session, we were inspired by their texts and the way they spoke, and I started adding music to them.
After a first self-produced album released on the internet in 2012, they met the members of Moriarty during a workshop at the IME: Arthur Gillette and Eric Dubessay fell under the spell and became respectively bassist and drummer of Astéréotypie alongside Christophe on guitar and Benoît Guivarc'h on keyboard. As a result, they join the independent label Air Rytmo (created by the members of Moriarty), which produces their second album L'énergie positive des dieux in 2017.
The documentary of the same name, directed by journalist Lætitia Møller who follows them from the IME to the concert halls, offers the public keys to understanding and wins several awards. It was the perfect accompaniment to the release of the third opus, Aucun mec ne ressemble à Brad Pitt dans la Drôme, in the spring of 2022, which was warmly received by the public and a great critical success.
Since then, Astéréotypie has been touring concert stages and festivals all over France. Everywhere, its singularity has made its mark. After 10 years of existence, the collective has finally found its audience and is now considered a group in its own right. Their new album, Patami, is just about to be released.
